Hickory Coffee Table
One of my wife’s friends commissioned me to build a coffee table for their new apartment. For this build I used Hickory for the tabletop and bottom slats and Red Oak for the base. A dark stain for the top and bottom slats coupled with an off-white paint for the base fit with the decor of the room perfectly. Small offset reveals in the base give the piece depth. V-grooves in the top provide character to an otherwise simple table. Shop made Hickory buttons elevate the craftsmanship and provide a sturdy mounting mechanism that also allows for seasonal wood movement. It’s always fun when a simple project provides an opportunity to learn and grow in the craft.
